Summer of 2010 is Latvia’s warmest

This summer in Latvia has been the warmest on record, topping the previous heat wave of 2002, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
The record was broken in part thanks to the average temperature in August reaching 18.4 degrees Celsius, beating the old average temperature for the month by 2.6 degrees.

Arts center exhibits Daina Krūmiņš’ artwork
The Barron Arts Center will be hosting an exhibit of Daina Krūmiņš’ artwork from Aug. 21 through Sept. 15 at the Barron Arts Center, 582 Rahway Ave, Woodbridge. Joining together on the recording entitled Es arī, their talents have produced a unique album, combining elements of Latvian and Georgian folk songs, as well as jazz and other world music elements.

In August, Latvia marks three anniversaries worth noting. On Aug. 11, 1920, Russia signed a peace treaty with Latvia. Nineteen years later, on Aug. 23, 1939, the Soviet Union signed a non-aggression pact with Nazi Germany.
