It is heartening to know that Latvia had a higher percentage of voter turn-out for the elections to the European Parliament than the other two Baltic States. It is, however, absolutely galling that the possibility still exists for Rubiks to take a seat in that Parliament, representing Latvia and Latvians, even if these results are just provisional. It is also, completely incomprehensible to this writer that Rubiks has been allowed to stand as a candidate under the Latvian Constitution and will probably be seated. It is quite obvious that the Russians did their usual propaganda thing and got the Russians in Latvia to vote for Rubiks, while the rest... did they sit home and let this happen? What a foolhardy lesson this is. When will the Saeima wake up and smell the coffee.... finally? It is hoped that better minds will prevail and they will oust this traitorous criminal, Rubiks.

When will Latvians learn the obvious lesson: If you want your ideas and convictions to be represented, you must make certain to vote for the persons who will do so. Obviously the Russians living in Latvia have understood very well how to proceed. The threat that such ex-criminals as Rubiks and the Latvian hater and pro-Moscow party's representative Zdanoka gain access to the European parlement was so real that it is surprising that the Latvian voters did not bother to counter it, when the opportunity was provided to them. It is all so sad and stupid, that there is really nothing to more to ad.....

Stop blaming it on Russian propaganda and bemoaning the fact that the Latvians didnt bother to counter it they have only themselves to blame. Perhaps they will take a leaf from the Russians and one day will realize that fracturing the Latvian vote into 5,6,7, different parties instead of 1 or 2 solid parties is the only way forward. Its typical of Latvians to create a new party if they cant agree or dont get along with a personality within the party.... its their own fault and I hope one day they will wake up to it.

Aggressive tempo of ethnic trance marks third album by Auļi
Drum and bagpipe ensemble Auļi occupies a particular niche not just in Latvian music, but in world music in general. Combining drums and bagpipes might not have been the most logical decision, but Auļi has found success and fame for its style and performances.

Despite 25 years of making music, Bumerangs has just two albums
Bumerangs, from the northern Latvian city of Valka, has long been a Latvian schlager music institution. Celebrating its 25th anniversary in December 2011, the band has been one of the hardest working—playing, in some years, hundreds of concerts, and entertaining audiences not just in Latvia, but elsewhere in the world.
