The Web site for Chicago-area Latvians, overseen by community activist Artis Inka, includes a forum that raises discussion of important questions such as the need for the Chicago Latvian Lutheran congregations to unite, whether one Chicago Latvian Center would be enough to serve the needs of the community and ideas to get Latvians in mixed marriages involved in community activities. The "Stariņš" preschool in Chicago is a full-time daycare center for children aged 2-5. The language of instruction is to be 100 percent Latvian. The center, which opened March 7, 2005, has received accreditation from the State of Illlinois and its preschool curriculum will be based on the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program.
