The name "Saulaine" no doubt is very familiar to those of you in the northern United States and Canada. For the rest of our readers: this is a 252-acre property one hour's drive north of Toronto owned by St. John's Latvian Ev. Lutheran Church in Toronto and has been the venue for a Latvian children's summer camp for many years. Latvian Canadian Cultural Centre
www.latviancentre.org
After sitting dormant for months on end, the Toronto-based Latvian Canadian Cultural Centre's Web site has been updated with a fresh design and new features. Chief among the latter is a members-only area that gives access to an e-mail directory and other information. For the general public, the site provides a calendar of events and background on the cultural centre. EN LV (Reviewed October 2000)

Toronto Latvian Saturday School
www.tlbss.org
In her opening address beginning the 52nd academic year of the Toronto Latvian Saturday School, Principal Moira Campbell summed up its collaborative spirit: "Here we don't have any bank presidents or 'Madame Ambassadors.' We are all people who have one purpose. This is a place where titles and occupations are put aside and we work as one team. This is a wonderful thing, for together we have the power to accomplish anything. Maybe this is the key of knowledge!" Find out what these third-generation Latvian kids in Toronto do most Saturday mornings, who their teachers are and who was in the graduating Class of 2001. This is one of two Latvian primary schools that operate in Toronto. The other one is called Valodiņa. Interesting future additions to the site could be samples of the children's work, more school photos or even a short video clip of a school function. EN LV (Reviewed March 2002)
