I am the first to admit I know little of Latvian Government but maybe this guy Dombrovskis can bring about some change. Is he the leader of a party or not ? can I find out information about him from anywhere on the web ?

Andrejs et al.,

Where were you when Latvia tried to regain its independence ?
Visu labu,

Bruno,

This is about as stupid of a question as there can be.

(a) What difference would it make to the answer to the question I originally posed? Do you support anti-semitism (and please don’t waste my time with what is anti-semitism, arabs are semites, some jews deserve it, israel, yadda yadda)? Is a simple yes or no question.
(b) If I had saved Latvia single handedly would that in any way change your answer?
(c) If I had been completely oblivious to Latvia would that in any way change your answer?

But to answer your question. I am not as impressed with myself and my contributions as some seem to be with their own over inflated self-importance on this forum. I was in a lot of places. I wrote letters to the Editor. The crowning moment was when the Chicago Tribune published my response to Bush Senior’s advice to the Baltics not to rock the boat and remain in the SU. I supported whatever family I had back in LV by whatever meager means I could. Long story short, its been a rough week for me. Been working since Monday of last week. Shortest day I had was 11 hours. Longest was Saturday since I was at work from 9am to 3am. I neither have the time nor the inclination to list all of the places I was when Latvia tried to regain its independence.

a) The question itself is stupid (extremely)
b) The answer will not make a difference

Have a nice day. Et al.

Andrejs

tom et al.,

“Any suggestions? “

Less talk about how all politicians in Latvia today are corrupt.  I do not believe that.  Talk about how all politicians are corrupt leads on a slippery towards a “vadonis”.  It is from the handbook of a “vadonis”.  “Everybody is corrupt, I will straighten things out”.

Why, Bruno.  One could think you’re evading the questions.  Both Dzons’ and Andrejs’.

And the fact that you had no problems making up a fictional history for Dzons, then berating him for it, shows your level of integrity.

You are just a carpetbagger from England.  Oh, yeah,  “you fell in love with Latvia” when you visited there to claim what was your fathers after Latvia regained independence..

p.s.  Do you even know what et al means?

Anita I have supported my family in Latvija since 1995 when I found out they were still alive, I have done everything I can possibly do monetary wise to make their lives more comfortable. My father passed away in 2002 but I still send money to my stepmother every month to help her make ends meet. My family in Latvija are not rich they work hard for very little monetary recompense. I live in England, but I am not as you called Bruno, a carpetbagger there to claim what was my fathers after independance. My father worked every hour he could to bring up 3 children on his own, he had his own business as a mechanic, my mother died when I was 18 months old and my twin sisters were just 6 weeks old when she died of cancer in 1963. My father returned to Latvija in 1995 and as I say passed away in 2002. I gave all my inheritance to my stepmother as the family in Latvija could use it more than myself. I wonder if you class all children born in England to Latvian parents as being carpetbaggers!

et al.
n. abbreviation for the Latin phrase et alii meaning “and others.”

Would you like me to explain other simple things for you ?

Karli, when an item is in green, it means it is a quote.  This is what Bruno said to another person, not what I am saying to him.  Better ask him if HE considers all Latvians born in England (etc.)

Bruno, so, if you know what et al means, why did you use it when you are addressing a question specifically to me?

Anyway, back to the issues (funny how you keep veering away).  Will you answer Andrejs’ question?  Will you admit you fictionalized Dzons’ history?  Will you answer HIS question (on the other thread - if you’re not living in Latvia, what is it you love more about the country where you are living)?
