Do you know exactly which “meza zemenes” you are referring to? I doubt without a more specific identification you’ll be able to find them - after all, what grows in your mezs may not be what grows in my mezs or in the next mezs! If there’s a particular cultivar of strawberries called “meza zemenes” in LV - what is the name?
I was looking for the kind that grew in my grandmother’s garden. After lots of googling and browsing, I finally found what I was looking for. I found that in English, they are called Alpine Strawberries. I also found a website that sells them (http://www.thestrawberrystore.com/) and ordered a whole bunch of seeds. The website seems kind of 1996ish, so, hopefully, I didn’t get swindled. I really hope that this works out. I miss the amazing sweet flavor of these strawberries.
Hi Imant,
I see that you beat me with the answer to your querry about wild strawberies. Years ago I had a dificulty to get a rid of the Alpine strawberies. They were creeping all over the back garden. Yes, they were very sweet, but rather small. Sparows seemed to enjoy them too. I think there are still some roots amongst the flowers. Glad you sorted your problem and have lots of sweet straws.
