Zatlers: 9.maija svinības nevajag saistīt ar Latvijas okupāciju

Šīs 9.maija svinības kā uzvaru karā nevajag saistīt ar Latvijas okupācijas sākumu, tā sākās 17.jūnijā, intervijā Latvijas radio šorīt sacīja Valsts prezidents Valdis Zatlers, komentējot jautājumu par viņa piedalīšanos 9.maijā Uzvaras dienas svinībās Maskavā.

The war in Europe enden on May 8, 1945.  Russian vanity caused them to postpone the signing of the armistice till May 9 to bolster their claim that they were the ones who really defeated Germany.  Zatler is wrong in agreeing with the Russian fabrication!

Be it May 8 or May 9, it still makes the date of the occupation of Latvia as June 17, 1940.

On a technical note:  May 8 and May 9 were the official Soviet holidays.

But they still call it the Great Patriotic War, not Wold War II, like the rest of the world.  Apparently they want to wipe off the history books the attack on Poland, the attack on Finland, and the occupation of Eastern European countries, in part or in entirety.

It was called the Great Patriotic War on the second day after Germany attacked the USSR to draw parallels with the Patriotic War of 1812 when Napoleon attacked Russia. There’s nothing inherently wrong with the name though. Even the Soviet-Finnish war is called the Winter War in the Soviet history. What is wrong though denying that the Soviet Union didn’t get involved in the World War Two until Germany attacked the USSR.

Aleksejs, maybe you need to stop reading the propaganda from Moscow.  You’re beginning to scare me.

I am well aware of the Soviet war crimes. Do you think calling the military conflict between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union the Great Patriotic War somehow justifies the crimes committed by the Soviets? Or does the hammer and sickle banner at the Reichstag building in 1945 somehow makes lives lost to the Soviets understandable?
