I recently discovered this song on Youtube…  I just love it!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgpNTqPvwb0

There were some translations given, but none that were complete.  I just know it’s a song about a bear that plays music!  Can someone give me a better translation?  I’m learning to sing this song, and I’d love to be able to know what I’m singing!

Any other resources (even CDs) that you would suggest to learn some simple songs in Latvian?  Thank you!

Artist: Vairāki
Song: Lācēns Muzikants mūzika
Album: Lāčuka dziesmas

Lāču mammai priecīgs prāts—
Lāčuks varens muzikants, 2x

Dipu-dapu, dipu-dap*,
Klipu-klapu, klipu-klap. 2x

Visu dienu, cik vien spēj,
Dziesmas dzied un diriģē, 2x

Dipu-dapu, dipu-dap,
Klipu-klapu, klipu-klap. 2x

Bungas spēlēt—tīrais nieks,
Lācēnam par to ir prieks. 2x

Pum-pum, pum-pum, pum-pum-pum,
Bum-bum, bum-bum, bum-bum-bum,
Pum-pum, pum-pum, pum-pum-pum,
Dun-dun, dun-dun, dun-dun-dun.

Cītīgs mūsu lācentiņš,
Arī notis pazīst viņš. 2x

Do-do, re-re, mi-mi-fa,
Mi-mi, re-re, do-do-do 2x

Vakarā, kad saule riet,
Laiks uz mājām gulēt iet. 2x

Aijā, aijā, aijajā,
Aijā, aijā, aijājā. :)

Awwwwww~

Here’s a quick translation so you can get the gist.  (I didn’t go for rhymes or rhythm - it loses a LOT of the charm, let me tell you!):

The bear’s mother is happy -
The little bear is a great musician

Dipu-dapu, dipu-dap*,
Klipu-klapu, klipu-klap. 2x

Visu dienu, cik vien spēj,
Dziesmas dzied un diriģē, 2x

All day as long, as much as he can
He sings songs and conducts

Dipu-dapu, dipu-dap,
Klipu-klapu, klipu-klap. 2x

Bungas spēlēt—tīrais nieks,
Lācēnam par to ir prieks. 2x

Playing the drums - it’s a snap;
That makes the little bear happy.

Pum-pum, pum-pum, pum-pum-pum,
Bum-bum, bum-bum, bum-bum-bum,
Pum-pum, pum-pum, pum-pum-pum,
Dun-dun, dun-dun, dun-dun-dun.

Cītīgs mūsu lācentiņš,
Arī notis pazīst viņš. 2x

Our little bear is so diligent
He also knows his notes

Do-do, re-re, mi-mi-fa,
Mi-mi, re-re, do-do-do 2x

Vakarā, kad saule riet,
Laiks uz mājām gulēt iet. 2x

In the evening, when the sun is setting,
It’s time to go home and to bed.

Aijā, aijā, aijajā,
Aijā, aijā, aijājā. :)

My mother did another translation which keeps the rhythm and can be sung in English,
but of course you need to keep the chorus there as well.

Mother Bear is happy so,
Little Bear loves music too.

All day long he plays and sings
Raising voice and arms he swings.

Drums he plays-it’s no big deal,
Baby Bear - he makes them sing.

Eager is our Baby Bear
even notes he recognizes.

And at night when sun is gone-
Time to sleep in mummy’s arms.
