Labdien. I would like to ask you what do you think about performing the song “Saule, Pērkons, Daugava” in Lithuania. I’m in love with this piece, but I know that it’s very important Latvian national song, so I would like to know if we could perform it, if you wouldn’t feel offended by people from other country singing this song and so on.
And then another question - if you (hopefully) think it’s all-right, is it possible to get sheet music (for choir) for this song?

YES!!! Sing this song everywhere you go.  It has got to be one of the most powerful songs I’ve ever heard.

Whole choir-fuls of people must have the sheet music; it would have been printed in the books handed out before the festival in which it was performed. 
Cross your fingers, that someone will send you a photo-copy.

Maybe you should get in touch with the composer?

I second the suggestion to get in touch with the composer.  Not simply for some sense of “permission” so to speak, but because considering the proximity, you may find that the composer would be willing to come to Lithuania for this performance, certainly a nice highlight for such a performance.

I have never heard the song - is it possible to hear it on line?

Thank-you. Just spent 4 weeks in Latvija - had a great time. While there I was watching the choir wars, which in my opinion truly show the pride and power with which Latvians sing, regardless of the music they select. While I preferred the songs in Latvian, the ones in English were also done very well.

The Bookstore at Saulaine has a religious Latvian song book with hundreds and hundreds of songs with music. Based on the inscription on the inside cover, it was given as a gift to composer Janis Norvilis and now, since his passing, donated by the family to Saulaine for Saulaine to sell.
