The 60th Congress of the Latvian Baptist Association of Brazil (Associação Batista Leta do Brasil) is scheduled July 9-12 in the Segunda Igreja Batista de Nova Odessa, Rua XV de novembro 50, Nova Odessa. For further information, visit batistasletos.com.

Baltica folklore festival
The International Folklore Festival Baltica will take place in Latvia from July 9-12. This is Latvian folklore’s biggest event of the year, which attracts singers from the whole country, as well as a handful of folklore groups from abroad (Estonia, Lithuania, Sweden, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, the U.S., etc.). The opening concert will take place on July 9 in Turaida. On July 11 a part of the festival participants will travel to Jelgava for concerts and activities. Those same groups will perform in smaller towns in Zemgale on July 12. Visitors will be able t hear concerts, enjoy a craft fair and take part in other activities continually throughout the festival in Rīga’s Vērmanes dārzs. Bumerangs, from the northern Latvian city of Valka, has long been a Latvian schlager music institution. Celebrating its 25th anniversary in December 2011, the band has been one of the hardest working—playing, in some years, hundreds of concerts, and entertaining audiences not just in Latvia, but elsewhere in the world.

Ar videoklipu biedrība mudina latviešus celties un iet balsot valodas referendumā
Biedrība “Par latviešu valodu” 9. februārī Rīgā atklāja akciju mudināt latviešus piedalīties 18. februāra referendumā un balsot pret grozījumiem Latvijas satversmē, kas noteiktu krievu valodu kā otro valsts valodu. Akcija ieskaita televīzijas reklāmas videoklipu ar nosaukumu “Celies un ej”, kurā dažādi sabiedrībā pazīstami cilvēki aicina skatītāju piedalīties referendumā.

For upcoming language referendum, absentee ballot applications top 1,200
The hot-button language referendum scheduled Feb. 18 apparently has lots of voters abroad interested in letting their voice be heard, if figures from absentee ballot requests are any indication.
